Lionfish Cull Badges

Apex Predator

Twenty-five culls — the reef’s new top predator.

Ecological & Conservation Significance

At 25+ culls, a diver has removed more lionfish biomass from the reef than most natural predation events could — effectively standing in for the apex predator lionfish lack in this hemisphere, and measurably protecting the juvenile parrotfish and wrasse populations lionfish prey on.
